Powerstock

Powerstock

Powerstock (pronounced Poorstock locally) lies at the foot of the magnificent Eggardon Hill, whose towering grassy buttresses dotted with sheep overlook what is – arguably – the finest view in West Dorset – unforgettable on a sunny summer evening at sunset as the shadows lengthen and the light turns golden.

The Powerstock Common Nature Reserve is ablaze with wildflowers in spring and summer, and trails through woodlands and grassland allow you to see a variety of wildlife too. If you are hungry after all that walking, The Three Horseshoes is a traditional village pub serving excellent food, and the garden has lovely views to enjoy.

If you fancy man-made attractions, both Mangerton Mill – a working watermill – and Mapperton House and Gardens – said to be one of the finest small manor houses in England – are close at hand.
