Evershot

Set high on the undulating hills north of Maiden Newton at the source of the River Frome, Evershot is an unspoilt and picturesque village that is still recognisable as one of the locations for Hardy’s Tess of the D’urbervilles. If you enjoy eating out, both the Acorn Inn and the Summer Lodge in the village provide award-winning cuisine and a delightful ambience.

After you’ve explored the village, there are several nearby historic towns and houses to visit nearby, for example, Sherborne with its abbey, Montacute House – and don’t miss a drive to see the Cerne Abbas Giant – a famously rude chalk figure cut in the hillside – and the historic village of Cerne itself, full of lovely buildings.
