Charmouth

Charmouth

Charmouth is a pretty town full of character colour-washed cottages and a surprisingly good range of family-run businesses along the High Street. Whether you are looking for a souvenir, surf and beach equipment, sun cream, a hairdo, local ingredients for a beach picnic or post office and newsagents, you won’t be disappointed. Not to mention a variety of nice places to eat or get an ice cream!

At the end of the picturesque Char Valley, Charmouth is situated right in the middle of a famously fossiliferous stretch of the Jurassic Coast, and you can find ammonites (some golden), crinoids, shells and belemnites by the hundred on the beach when the tide is down. Fossil shops in the town, and the Heritage Coast Centre almost on the beach are handy for adding to your collection or feeding the imagination of junior dinosaur hunters!

Once you tire of fossils, the wide sandy beach with its rock pools and iconic row of blue beach huts is perfect for family fun, and the large car parks close to the beach make it easy to transport your beach paraphernalia.
