Things To Do in Dorset On A Budget

A mini-break or time away is a great way to press the ‘reset’ button on your day-to-day life and just relax for a little while with friends, loved ones, or your partner. It can be difficult to find places to go and things to do when you’re on a little bit of a budget, but luckily our range of holiday cottages in Bridport are also surrounded by equally exciting and budget-friendly ways to spend your time.

Eype Beach, Bridport

Another great day to spend out of your hire holiday cottage in Dorset is this lesser-known crown in Bridport’s crown: Eype beach. It offers a little peaceful seclusion from some of Bridport’s more popular coastline gems and is even great for swimming because the beach is easily accessible. The views are stunning, dogs are welcome all year round, and the beach even offers up the opportunity for fossil hunting. This is the perfect spot for a quiet picnic, or to watch the sunset over the Jurassic Coast. Stretch your legs, tire yourselves or the dog out, and take in the beautiful scenery even en route to this secluded little slice of Bridport.

Seatown, Charmouth

Seatown in Charmouth is but a 15-minute drive from Bridport, or a simple 20-minute coach ride via public transport. Part of the Jurassic Coastline, this part of the coastline is extremely popular for fossil hunters, as glimpses into the past can be found all year round here. Because the rock is so old, fossils are exposed throughout the year with the sea erosion, so whiling away a few hours collecting your own fossils is a great way to remember your time in Dorset especially if you can walk away with a piece of history to hold, all for free!

Donkey Sanctuary, Sidmouth

Sidmouth is just shy of 40-minute drive from your Bridport holiday cottage for rent, but when you reach your destination it will all be so worth it. Sidmouth is home to the Donkey Sanctuary, one of many across the world! Meet the donkeys, learn all about what the organisation does and how it works, and enjoy scenic walks through the countryside surrounding the working farm. We know this is a budget-friendly activity, but we challenge anyone to visit the sanctuary and stare into a donkey’s big brown eyes and return home to your Bridport holiday home without adopting and sponsoring your new friend…

Bridport Museum, Bridport

Following a major redevelopment in 2017, Bridport museum opens its doors once again and offers free entry to the public to learn all about our historic town. Roman jewellery, mystical amulets, armour, and fossils are all on display. However, if you’re still a little curious about the deeper history of Bridport, there are also displays and information on the dark history of disease, decay, and death… Fun! Whatever draws you to this museum, you will be interested and entertained with new interactive displays.
